Jet Airways and Indian Airlines insisted that Senior Citizens should for availing the 50 % air travel concessions, buy tickets seven days in advance and also stay at the destination at least two days. Recently Rajasthan High Court in a writ petition against the airlines passed the order that the senior citizens need not buy air ticket seven days in advance to enjoy the 50% concessions offered to them by the airlines. They need not also stay two nights at the destination before making the return journey.
High Court Contempt Notice to ICICI Bank
Delhi High Court has issued contempt notices to ICICI Bank directing its Jhandewalan Extension Branch Manager to appear in person before the court. The bank had financed a Ford Ikon car to a resident of Indraprastha Extention, New Delhi in march 03. An amount of Rs 4.50 lakhs was to be paid in 60 monthly installment of Rs 9805/- per month. He had paid 30 installments till the end of August 05. Owning to his mother illness who subsequently passed away in October 05, he sought time to pay the dues. About five persons arrived at his office and demanded the car keys for surveillance of the vehicle. When he resisted he was threatened with a knife and the car was forcibly taken away. On writ petition of the petitioner , Delhi High Court directed police to register a case after investigation. As per law the aggrieved party must first approach the court for purpose of seizure of vehicle. The judge was critical of the manner adopted by the bank asking then to return the car to the owner. The bank refused to follow order. Aggrieved by such conduct of the bank, the owner filed a contempt petition. The High Court issued notice to the Bank Manager seeking an explanation and official’s presence on the next date of hearing for visible disregard to court order.
