This public-interest initiative supported by the Department
of Science & Technology, Government of India was
initiated in January 2004 and was wrapped up in 2006
after running successfully for two years. |
Food
standards and safety in a globalised world- this
book captures and addresses diverse perspectives of
food safety issues for consumer education and awareness.
It not only discusses food security problems in Indian
context with relevance to indigenous foods but also
analyse how the indigenous foods offer a better nutritional
and sustainable alternative. The health and environmental
issues connected with genetically modified foods have
also been analysed in great detail. |
Possible
steps to enhance energy efficiency in CFLs, Ballasts
and Ceiling Fans- this is a special report on
promoting energy efficiency, published in October 2005.
A research study and test was done on 14 popular brands
of 15W CFLs, Magnetic Ballasts and 12 brands of Ceiling
fans by VOICE (India) and SLEMA (Sri Lanka). The objectives
of this study addresses on key objectives to disseminate
the test results for consumer awareness and sensitize
NSBs (National Standard Bodies), policy makers on possibility
of saving Energy on existing brands and assist NSBs
in implementation of EE (Energy Efficiency) Standards
in the country and region. |
Investors
Guide- the household investor forms the majority
in capital market investment. But more often than not,
the investors suffer losses due to lack of information
about the functioning of financial market. Thus edition
first and second of investors guide aims to protect
such investors from any potential loss as these have
information relating to the rights of investors, financial
market, securities, depository and dematerialization,
problems in capital market and law enforcement agencies
etc. |
A
study on availability and prices of medicines in India-
in order to understand the problems pertaining to availability,
price variation and drug quality, VOICE carried out
a study of three types of respondents: first, patients
visiting hospitals and chemist shops; secondly, retailers
selling medicines and thirdly, service providers such
as hospitals/nursing homes both in the private and public
sectors. The results of the study are compiled in this
book. |
Report
of Asia Codex Training Workshop on Infant Food and Safety
Issues- in November 2001 a workshop was organized
by VOICE in collaboration with Breastfeeding Promotion
Network of India (BPNI). The main theme of the workshop
was to sensitise, train and involve NGOs of developing
countries of Asia for an overall understanding of the
Codex process on Infant Food and Safety Issues. The
outcome of the workshop has been documented in detail
in this report. |
Perceptions
and expectations of consumer organizations in the South
East Asia regional countries on tobacco related issues-
the book has been published by VOICE to specifically
map out the tobacco control activities in the south
East Asian Region in consultation with the members of
Consumers International and World Health Organisation. |
An
evaluation study on the implementation of National Laws
on packed food products- realizing the need for
citizen groups and consumer organizations to develop
a campaign to build awareness within the community and
also facilitate the government agencies to be able to
monitor the market place the entry of mislabeled or
unsafe products, VOICE conducted this study. The study
has documented the existing level of effectiveness of
our regulatory mechanisms as per the national laws.
This monograph is part of a campaign kit to facilitate
citizen groups and consumer organizations to attract
the attention of the consumers and the respective State
Governments to effectively implement the existing laws
concerning mandatory information on labels to inform,
educate and protect the consumers. |
A study on the regulatory
framework for consumer redress in the health care sector
in India- the paucity of knowledge regarding
the current system of redress in the health sector in
India called for this study in order to provide an in-depth
account of the functioning of the prevailing system
of patient redress. Further such a study was also required
to find out malpractices, denial of services and issues
of medical malpractice by medical practitioners, assess
the nature of litigation, types of cases submitted to
consumer court and response of existing medical institutional
mechanism. This report covers all this and have made
number of suggestions to improve the functioning of
Consumer For a, to augment consumer awareness and their
empowerment. |
