If you thought getting a branded juicer-mixer-grinder (JMG) would take care of your kitchen worries, you might be in for a surprise. JMGs, that are supposed to be high-power electric products that are meant to withstand load, turn out to be fragile machines that give way. Consumer VOICE tests of 9 brands of juicer-mixer-grinders and 2 brands of mixer-grinders find some of the top-of-the line JMG brands breaking down in the endurance test.
Test findings:
The costliest brand is also the best performer
Sumeet is the only ISI-marked brand
Two leading JMGs overheat and emit fumes during safety operations.
Mixer-grinders fail miserably in egg-whisking test
Most juicers do poorly in juice-extraction test, giving less than 500 g of juice in a minute’ time
JMGs do not come with motor-locking device or micro-switches
JMGs are supposed to withstand continuous running for 48 hrs. Five brands break down during these tests-one after only four hours of operations.
How the tests were conducted?
Consumer VOICE bought the nine brands of JMGs and two brands of mixer-grinders from the retail market and tested them according to IS 4250:1980 of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The tests were carried out in an NABL accredited laboratory.
