EDITORIAL
Come December, and it is wrap up time…
Our final issue for the 12th month of the year 2007, is in your hands. We have tried every which way to come through for our readers and subscribers, and we take this opportunity to thank all of you for the support and affection you have very enerously extended to the VOICE family. We exist for you and hope to continue serving you for many years to come, to the best of our capacity and capability.

We do feel however, that our message needs to reach many more people than it does at present, and we are learning that all the work at our end is of no avail unless it reaches people, and people find it helpful in their day-to-day lives.

Our team makes all efforts to reach all consumer segments through the print media—both in Hindi and English, Online through www.consumer-voice.org, live on television screens and you can of course hear us by tuning into the radio services. We hold seminars, carry out extensive surveys, organise workshops, run consumer clubs in schools and colleges, address as well as work with RWAs, help you with legal support, bring comparative test results of products and services so that you can make informed choices. We accept invitations to come speak at your forums, when you need us. We represent your interests across the globe, on national and
international platforms. We write, we publish, we supply resource material to both students and teachers. In short we do all we can think of and would be willing to do whatever it takes to build bonds with you and help improve quality of life for our consumers, which continues to be threatened by the menace of climate change altering lives across the globe but not for the better.

If you are a member with us, you know by now that it is also a two-way street. We need you to meet us half way and to communicate with us so that we continue to hone our stances and learn as we grow. Nurturing has to be mutual, or the relationship withers.

We look forward with faith and hope, to reaching our common goals with your full support in the year 2008. Tell us what else we can do for you and we'll try to meet you half-way. Write/phone/email/fax or better still, just walk in to have a heart to heart with any of the unit members who work for you at the VOICE office. (Check on page 19 in the issue for contact details). We also have a network of sister organisations, who can support you in several ways.
The year's highlights for consumers have been several as India and China both continue to grow phenomenally, but their true strength lies in the number and quality of their consumers.

The true winner though continues to be the RTI Act or The Right to Information Act because it is different from any other law as it allows the governed not only to question those who govern, with the additional punch of the right to fine them if they do not respond.

However what consumers need to ensure is that the RTI Act is not misused by unscrupulous elements out to blackmail and stall the work of those serving the nation and its citizens. In the vibrant Indian democracy, the individual citizen must be an enlightened, empowered and responsible consumer.

We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Joyous 2008.
