The Workshop has given an opportunity to the consumer organizations to document existing status of IMPLEMENTATION and ENFORCEMENT of the Tobacco Control Legislation in INDIA.The outcomes made it evident that the Government Machinery is poor and inadequate with regard to effective implementation and the citizens lack the knowledge on such provisions of law which are existing in the interest of a common consumer.
The safety and health concerns of our citizens should be our prime objective and not the international trade at the cost of the life of a poor and disadvantaged consumer. India is a large country and in the years to come , it will attract various players with varied intentions to capture the opportunities provided to the world due to changes in the international regulations and policies . We all should become a stakeholder on this issue and ensure full protection to an Indian Consumer.

This workshop was used as a tool to build awareness among the consumers. This workshop focused the issues and also facilitated the ongoing process to understand the various limitations and the country dimensions on the implementation infrastructure available in the developing countries like India . We, hope that the workshop has been able to capture the existing situation at the cutting edge and has fulfilled its objective as mentioned earlier in this report.

The workshop has also endorsed the need for the individual consumer to be alert at the time of purchase by taking a little time off to read carefully the informations which are missing in the interest of their health and safety. As they are now aware about the various existing laws concerning full informations to the consumers.

The awareness regarding the health hazards of tobacco use seems to have increased during recent times This indicates that social environment is conducive for major activities for tobacco control. Decision-makers in different ministries/ departments at centre are aware of the problem, but logistic aspects are still major impediments. It has been observed that legislation without proper public awareness and commitment will not be successful. Therefore, research has been initiated on various economic and employment related aspects and efforts are on to work towards a major reduction in reduction of tobacco use in the country. And the state of Mizoram should also not be lacked behind in terms of enforcement of existing laws plus raising the level of awareness among its people.

As the Subject of Tobacco Control & its minimization is of great Social importance, ways & means have to be so devised that they act as deterents for the public at large in general & younger people is special so that the Highfi tobacco acts do not entice them. We can't Weed-out this menace from the society immediately rather it has to be prosecuted & followed up with will and determination and then an efforts are bound to bare fruits in the forcible future if not immediately.
