ENDOMETRIOSIS

As disorders go, endometriosis is as mysterious as it sounds. Normally, the endometrial tissue-soft tissue that lines your uterus-alternately thickness and sheds each month with your period. But in some women the endometrial tissue migrates outside the uterus and starts to grow on and around other pelvic organs, such as the ovaries, colon and bladder or the fallopain tubes, which carry eggs from the ovaries to the uterus.

A take-charge approach

Eat a low animal fat diet

Meat, fatty fish and poultry, diary products and eggs contain dioxins-chemical residues that may be linked to both the onset and severity of endometriosis.

Counter constipation

If you're constipated and bloated, you're going to feel a lot worse.

Change sexual positions

Painful sexual intercourse may be remedied by choosing a position in which the woman has greater control over penetration.

Exercise if at all possible

A program of regular exercise, three times a week for atleast for atleast 30 minutes, can help relieve pain and menstrual cramps.

Take a painkiller

The pain of endometriosis can be severe, especially during menstruation. Over-the-counter nonsteriodal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen can help by interfering with prostaglandin production. Just follow the package direction.

Relax progressively

Chronic pain causes a release of stress hormones, which in turn increases pain sensitivity by reducing the production of endorphins.
