EYE IRRITATIONS |
Unless you wear protective goggles 24 hours a day, sooner or later, you're going to get something in your eye-a speck of dust, grit or makeup, for instance. The misery is intense. Even if your eyes are fortunate enough to escape invasion by a foreign object, they're subject to dryness and allergie, both of which are highly irritating. |
Fortunately, simple solutions are at hand |
Blink |
Blinking stimulates your eyes to generate tears-tears that help your body flush out foreign invaders, like grit, dust and dirt. |
Work it down-and out |
If blinking doesn't work, you can use your eyelids to gently push the speck down and out. Grasp the eyelashes of your upper lid between fingers, then pull your upper lid over your lower lid. This allows your lower eyelashes to brush the speck off the inside of your upper lid. Then blink a few times. |
Flush it out |
Ordinary tap water can flush a speck out of your eye. Go to the faucet and splash in as mush water as it takes to remove the speck. |
Try artificial tears |
Artificial tears-available over the counter-not only flush out foreign objects, but help soothe and remoisten your eye. |
Wearing contact lenses? Take them out |
Once your eyes are irritated, contact lenses aggravate the situation. The irritating item may be on your contact, not in your eye. Remove your lens right away. |
Standard tactic: A cold compress |
Allergies-to ragweed, makeup, per dander or just about anything-can make your eyes itch. A cool compress will cut down the itch and soothe your eyes. Wet a washcloth or towel and place it on your closed whenever they itch-for atleast 2 minutes or as long as 20. |
Wear protective goggles for chores |
As a regular form of exercise, mowing and weed whacking can keep you and your lawn in great shape. But stir up grass and dirt, and you're apt to get some in your eyes. Protective goggles ar safety glasses will eliminate that problem. |
Put on watertight goggles before the plunge |
Chlorine in pool water will sting and irritate eyes. So protect
your eyes with watertight goggles. |
