When Digital India, the flagship program of Government of India, finds prominence in all its initiatives to bring India to the front line of the developing world, it is of critical importance that it is not just the provision of digital services that will transform our country into a digitally empowered nation but it’s the quality of these services that will determine the sustainability of this vision.
Poor Internet speed is one of the major roadblocks for building a truly Digital India. We at Consumer VOICE recently conducted a study which revealed that average speed for 3G was 2.10 mbps and that of 4G was 3.16 mbps. Maximum for 4G was found to be 12.70 mbps and 9.98 mbps for 3G against the claims of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) being from 1.8 to 40 mbps for 3G and up to 100-150 mbps for 4G. On this World Consumer Rights Day where the emphasis is on Better Digital World, Consumer VOICE is holding a workshop ‘Need for Better Quality of Internet Services to make India Truly Digital’ to raise awareness and emphasis the need for the Internet speed. This is our effort at Consumer VOICE to celebrate the day and demand that the rights of all consumers are respected and protected, and draw attention to the gap between the promised and the delivered services by the ISPs. #NeedQoIS
